Grange Hospital employee’s sexual assault trial collapses

The trial of a trainee health worker accused of sexually assaulting two patients has collapsed.

Ieuan Crump, 26, faced allegations he touched two women inappropriately while carrying out bladder scans at Grange Hospital in Cwmbran in August 2021.

Crump has denied nine counts of sexual assault, including three counts of penetrative assault.

The trial at Cardiff Crown Court had been going on for more than two weeks, but after a second day of deliberations, the jury was discharged by Judge Vanessa Francis.

During the trial, the court heard how Mr Crump worked at the hospital as a nursing assistant while preparing for a nursing degree.

After a two-week trial, the jury retired Thursday to consider its verdict.

But on Monday, November 4 – the second day of deliberations – Judge Francis released them and ended the trial.

Addressing the jury, she said she could not “go into detail” about why they were dismissed, adding that it could prejudice any potential future retrial.
