Shocking allegations surface

Among the most controversial findings of the Dispatches investigation presented in the new documentary is that King Charles and Prince William ask NHS, British Armed Forces and charities for millions of pounds to use land inherited centuries ago.

The money taken from these estates, on which they do not have to pay income tax, is added to the private income that the royals receive from British taxpayers’ money.

The King, Prince and Secret Millions highlights two duchies (territories ruled by a duke or duchess): the Duchy of Lancaster and the Duchy of Cornwall. These estates were established in 1399 and 1337 respectively to ultimately make more money for the sovereign and heir.

According to the inquest, Charles and William earned £27.4m and £23.6m from their duchies last year alone. This is made all the more controversial by the fact that the UK is going through a cost of living crisis, with public services such as the NHS facing the biggest impact.

mails documentary reveals that the King’s Duchy of Lancaster has a deal where the NHS paid more than £11m over 15 years to store ambulances at one of its depots.

Meanwhile, Prince William’s Duchy of Cornwall has a £37m deal to lease Dartmoor Prison to the Ministry of Justice and an equally lucrative contract to allow the Armed Forces to train on Dartmoor land.

The duchy also makes thousands in rent from various charities, including the not-for-profit Marie Curie and Macmillan cancer organisations, of which the King is patron.

In addition, one in seven of the prince’s legacy rental properties in the Duchy of Cornwall have the lowest energy rating in the UK and are riddled with black mold and damp.

The news comes amid a £369 million, ten-year, taxpayer-funded renovation of Buckingham Palace and as Prince William launches his homelessness campaign, promising that “everyone has the right to a safe and stable home.”

The documentary was met with a strong reaction. NHS Million, a group launched by NHS staff to support the National Health Service, he wrote on X/Twitter, “Whatever you think about the Royal Family, surely we can all agree they shouldn’t be profiting from the NHS.”

Meanwhile, former BBC correspondent and royal family reporter Peter Hunt said: “William can single-handedly make a significant impact on homelessness by accepting a fixed income in exchange for giving up his vast duchy of Cornwall.”

Hunt continued write“We now know, thanks to @C4Dispatches and @thetimes, that: taxpayers’ money from government departments and the NHS goes to the Duchy of Lancaster. He financed the late Queen and now the King. This private fortune helped settle Andrew’s legal case.”

Did the royal family respond?

No, King Charles, Prince William and the royal family’s PR team have not shared a response to the Dispatches investigation. at the time of writing.

The Royal Family typically make public statements or allegations through official channels, such as the Buckingham Palace press office or by releasing official statements to trusted news outlets. We will keep you posted if this changes.
