MEYERTON – Many residents will remember him as the friendly young barista behind the counter at Platō Cafe.

His voice is now forever silent and the friendly smile is gone.

Xolani Makghato, also known as Mr X, died from injuries he sustained when thieves shot him in the head during an armed robbery in Orange Farm.

Sedibeng Ster he understands that his girlfriend was present when it happened.

Xolani was the father of a young girl.

Police spokesperson Captain Teboho Lephoto could not provide further information on the incident Sedibeng Ster.

Tributes for Xolani poured in on Facebook.

Wendy Thomas-Taljaard, owner of Platō Cafe in Meyerton, said in her post: “It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our brother and beloved barista. Xolani, thank you for putting so many smiles on our customers’ faces. It’s a senseless robbery that resulted in it being taken from us. May God comfort your family and friends during this sad time.”
