IT Manager Guy Aguirre was named the Maui Economic Opportunity Employee of the Month for August for always having a solution and a smile and working to improve security and system access for people with disabilities.

Aguirre also lost his apartment and prized possessions, including golf clubs and his motorcycle, in the Lahaina fires. He moved to Kahului with his mother, who delights the staff with banana bread pastries and other treats.

His anonymous caller said Aguirre is not recognized until there is a problem. Since you don’t see much around the office, things must be going well.

Since joining the MEO in late December 2022 from the visitor industry, Aguirre has been instrumental in improving mobile phone and internet services in Hana and improving network security and is working to connect a fiber optic connection and improve internet access at the MEO for people with disabilities. .

For being named August Employee of the Month, Aguirre earned a $150 check and an extra vacation day. He was honored at the MEO general staff meeting on September 25.
