Rockville man arrested in Silver Spring shooting, charged with assault and reckless endangerment

GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A Rockville man was arrested following an Oct. 31 shooting incident in Silver Spring where gunfire struck nearby apartment buildings, according to Montgomery County police.

The shooting happened around 4:14 pm in the 14100 block of Whispering Pines Court. Officers from the 4th District responded to reports of gunfire, finding six shell casings at the scene and two bullet holes in neighboring apartment buildings. No injuries were reported.

Investigators determined the incident began as an argument between an adult male and female and a group of individuals. While searching the area, officers observed a man matching the description of the shooting suspect. The suspect was later identified as Jayson Edwards, 33, of Rockville. Officers also observed a woman leave the area in a black Toyota Camry.

The 4th Precinct Special Task Force conducted a traffic stop on the Toyota Camry near New Hampshire Avenue and Cannon Road. Edwards, the front passenger in the vehicle, was found to have an active warrant out of Prince George’s County. He was detained, while the female driver was briefly detained and later released.

Police obtained search warrants for the Toyota Camry and the residence associated with Edwards and the female driver. During the search, officers recovered two handguns – a .22 caliber firearm and a privately manufactured 9mm firearm (PMF) – along with spent casings.

Edwards faces charges of first-degree assault and reckless endangerment in connection with the Silver Spring shooting incident. He is currently being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit on both the outstanding Prince George’s County warrant and the new charges stemming from this case.
