Mehdi Hasan says he will ‘never’ forgive Biden for not arming DOJ to prosecute Trump before election

Former MSNBC anchor Mehdi Hasan President Biden said and Attorney General Merrick Garland on Saturday for not prosecuting former President Trump before the 2024 presidential election.

In a scathing post on X over the weekend, Hasan said he would never forgive Biden and Garland for allowing Trump’s Jan. 6 trial to take place after Election Day — while shrugging off concerns about to one armed justice system.

“No matter who wins or loses on Tuesday, I will not stop being angry at Joe Biden and Merrick Garland for allowing Trump to face the electorate this week without having seen the inside of a courtroom for his crimes in January and before him. 6,” he wrote.

“Stunning incompetence, prudence, cowardice and more at the top of the Democratic Party. They will say it was to try to keep faith in an unbiased DOJ, but even after giving Trump a pass, the Dems and Biden DOJ are still accused of conducting a “witch hunt” against Trump and that he “weaponized” the justice system against him. he added.

After months of speculation about the date of a trial in Special Counsel Jack Smith election case against Trump, U.S. District Judge for the District of Columbia Tanya Chutkan announced in September that the trial would not begin before the presidential election, setting a Nov. 7 deadline for responses and documents from federal prosecutors and Trump’s legal team — at two days after Election Day. The case concerns Trump’s alleged efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Democrats had hoped for an earlier trial date, believing it would damage Trump politically and give Kamala Harris a massive advantage in a tight race.

Trump was indicted on four federal charges stemming from Smith’s investigation into the Capitol riot, including conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction and attempted obstruction of an official proceeding, and conspiracy against the rights in August 2023. Trump pleaded not guilty to all charges brought against him by Smith and referred to the case as a “witch hunt”.

At the time, Democrats argued that the allegations pointed to a “months-long criminal plot led by the former president to defy democracy.”

But after the Supreme Court ruled that a president is immune from prosecution for official acts, Smith was forced to file a new indictment against Trump, revising the charges in an effort to navigate supreme court deciding

The new indictment kept the previous criminal charges, but narrowed and reworded the charges against Trump after the High Court’s ruling that granted broad immunity to former presidents. Smith claims Trump pressured his ex Vice President Mike Pence to reject legitimate electoral votes, in addition to training fake voters in key states that went to President Biden and to attest to Trump’s electoral victory.

Charges of conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction and attempted obstruction of an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights remain.

Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges in also a new indictment.

Trump also faces criminal charges in a separate federal case led by Smith over classified documents, as well as charges in Fulton County, Georgia, and a 34-count criminal conviction in Manhattan Criminal Court. He was also convicted of 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree in a New York courtroom in May.

Trump maintained his innocence as congressional Republicans swore to him to tear down on the alleged harmonization of the Department of Justice.
