Man arrested after assaulting three people, including MNPD officer

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A man was arrested after assaulting three people, including a Metro Nashville Police officer, according to an arrest affidavit.

Officers responded to the Ole Smokey Distillery on 6th Avenue South on Saturday around 10pm for complaints of a fight.

When officers arrived at the scene, a security guard told them they had detained a man, identified as Richard Shillinglaw.

The guard said Shillinglaw was seen fighting with an unknown person, so he tried to break up the fight. As he intervened, Shillinglaw allegedly grabbed the guard by the upper chest and neck. The guard said they took Shillinglaw to the ground.

The affidavit said the security guard placed Shillinglaw in handcuffs after he tried to attack again.

Police also spoke to another alleged victim who said Shillinglaw was harassing her and her friends. The victim said that when they asked her to leave them alone, he threatened to assault her.

When Shillinglaw was placed in police custody, he began to resist. As officers searched him, he kicked an officer twice and physically fought them.

During the struggle, the officer’s watch, valued at $600, was damaged, the affidavit states.

The affidavit said Shillinglaw appeared to be intoxicated.

Shillinglaw was charged with assault, fear of bodily harm and battery on a law enforcement officer and booked into the Davidson County Jail.
