The bye week can’t come soon enough for The badgers as Iowa scores another touchdown with 1:15 to play, this one by Jazun Patterson. The Hawkeyes finish with 329 rushing yards tonight, scoring more than 40 points for the third straight time at home. The Badgers’ run defense has absolutely no answer for the Hawkeyes’ rushing attack in a miserable 42-10 loss at Iowa.

The Badgers force a 3rd and 6 from the Iowa 27, but any chance to get back into the game disappears when Sullivan and Ortwerth connect for a 52-yard reception and an Iowa first down at the UW 21. Two plays later Sullivan fumbles ball up the middle to the 1. It takes a few plays, but Johnson scores his third touchdown of the night and as Iowa’s offensive line continues its dominance, 35-10.

The Badgers finally have a big play on a third and 10 wen Locke hits Vinny Anthony on the run for 33 yards. A nice second throw to Anthony for 15 yards puts the Badgers at the 20-yard line. The quarter ends after two carries from Walker produce seven yards, setting up a 3rd-and-3 from the 13. After Walker is tackled for a loss, the Badgers go for fourth down and Locke finds Williams for a TD 14 yards on fourth down. UW trails, 28-10 with 14:12 left in the game.

Things are going from bad to worse for Brayden Locke and the Badgers. On 3rd and 5 from the Wisconsin 40, Locke is intercepted by Nick Jackson, who returns it 28 yards to the UW 12. Two plays later, Sullivan finds Jacob Gill in the end zone for a 7-yard score, and Hawkeyes lead, 28-3. Locke is 9 of 20 for 72 yards and two interceptions with 4:17 to play in the third quarter

Iowa will continue to run the ball until the Badgers adjust to stop it. The first eight plays are rushes and produce 60+ yards. Iowa has nine plays that have produced more than 10 yards on the ground. (Blousics have two). For his 10th straight drive, Johnson scores from nine yards and the Hawkeyes take a commanding 21-3 lead. Johnson has 131 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and the Hawkeyes have 238 yards rushing as a team.

Having the ball to start the second half is another opportunity for the Badgers to get close, but after only a first down and 18 yards down the field, the Badgers need to punt again. Locke is 8-of-18 for just 68 yards passing, though he didn’t throw in that series.

Kaleb Johnson has 92 yards rushing and the Hawkeyes have 152 yards rushing as a team. The Badgers have just 114 yards of total offense

UW gets its first down conversion with about a minute left in the half on a 4-yard run by Locke to the Iowa 43. However, an incompletion, a block and a false start set up a 2nd-and-30 at the Wisconsin 37. Another down play sets up 3rd and 33 with 28 seconds left from the 34. The Badgers finally punt the ball to the 10 and go into the locker room down 11.

Nyzier Fourqurean’s tackle on Zach Ortwerth prevents a first down and gives the Badgers a much-needed stop. Unfortunately, a 57-yard field goal gives the Badgers the starting position at the 6-yard line. A 13-yard completion to Darrion Dupree moves the Badgers away from the goal line, but another incomplete pass on another third down forces another punt. However, Iowa gets just three yards on three plays, including two incompletions, and the Badgers have a chance to score before halftime as they start at their own 30 after another 50-yard drive with 2:45 left .

It’s another three-and-out for the Badgers after Locke’s third-down throw to Williams goes off the receiver’s hands and falls incomplete. The Badgers have yet to convert a third down (0-for-3) with 7:15 left in the half.

A personal foul penalty on Aaron Witt and a 30-yard run by Kamari Moulton help set up Iowa’s 80-yard touchdown drive, which is capped by a 16-yard run by Johnson. The game suddenly turns away from Wisconsin as the Hawkeyes extend their lead to 14-3.

The Badgers gain just one yard on three plays and from the 26. Atticus Bertrams’ 42-yard punt goes up after an illegal block on the Hawkeyes’ return.

On 1st and 10 from the UW 32, Johnson carries the ball for 10 yards and another first down. His number is called again and Johnson gains 16 yards on his next touch, bringing the ball to the 5. On 3rd and goal, Sullivan keeps it and is pushed into the end zone for the touchdown. The Hawkeyes take a 7-3 lead with 12:45 to play in the half.

After a 7-yard completion by Pauling and a 5-yard run by Walker, Locke makes a costly mistake as his throw is picked off by Deshaun Lee in open space and returned to the Iowa 47. After a five-yard run, Sullivan pass to Jacob Gill gains 16 yards and the Hawkeyes are in business late in the quarter,

Iowa gets the ball at the 25 and moved the ball to the UW 38. The Badgers had two tackles for loss and an Iowa false start to force a 56-yard field goal that hit the upright but was missed by Drew Stevens.

Brayden Locke’s 10-yard toss to Will Pauling gets the Badgers off to a promising start, but after a seven-yard run by Tawee Walker, the Badgers are flagged for a false start. On 3rd and 8, Iowa returns the favor with back-to-back delay of game penalties to give the Badgers a first down, but Locke is then sacked for a five-yard loss at the 43-yard line. However, one play later, an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty gives the Badgers another first down at the Iowa 43. Two plays later, Locke hits CJ Williams for a gain of 18 and a first down at the 25. But another false start and an incomplete throw to the end zone sets up 2nd and 15. from the Iowa 30. A quick throw to the outside to Vinny Anthony yields nine yards. On 3rd and 6, Locke’s pass to the opposite end is wide and Nathanial Vakos kicks a 38-yard field goal to give the Badgers a 3-0 lead with 6:15 left in the first quarter.

It’s a “blackout” in Iowa City, with most fans decked out in the dominant Hawkeye color as the two Big Ten rivals play their sixth league game of the season. Quarterback Brendan Sullivan comes out and completes a nine-yard pass after Iowa gets the punt, but after two runs by Kaleb Johnson pick up a total of nine yards, an incomplete pass on 3rd-and-1 forces a punt and the Badgers take over. 20.

Wisconsin vs Iowa Football Predictions

Mark Stewart: This has the makings of a big comeback game for Wisconsin. The Badgers didn’t play bad last week, but it wasn’t good enough to win. Still, the experience of facing a top-three opponent prepares UW nicely for the rigors of winning on the road. Wisconsin 24, Iowa 20

JR Radcliffe: This looks like a hugely important game for quarterback Braedyn Locke, who has struggled to go a game this year without even committing a turnover. Is he the future at quarterback for this program? If it is, this would be an opportunity to showcase it, leading Wisconsin into a tough but winnable road game against a team at the expense of its own starting quarterback. The defense has already slowed a strong opponent (Rutgers), but Iowa is the best in the Big Ten in that department, led by Kaleb Johnson. It’s another close call, but I think Iowa just has a little bit more. Iowa 28, Wisconsin 23.
