Dense fog is proving hard to shake from the forecast as we head into the weekend

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – More fog starts are likely even into the morning this weekend as warm and humid conditions continue for SWLA.

The rest of Friday will follow a similar pattern to most of this week. Lots of sunshine with mixed cloud cover pushing afternoon temperatures into the mid-80s with perhaps a little less breeze than Thursday. The higher humidity won’t be too noticeable during the afternoon, which should be dry enough for outdoor plans, including sporting events. While the wetness will steadily return after the sun goes down, fog isn’t likely to appear until much later overnight.

Rain will remain out of the forecast until at least early next week. A weak front will approach this weekend, but likely fails to make it here. Some longer range models suggest better moisture may return by the middle of next week and possibly a few showers. That would likely be around Wednesday or Thursday, but significant rainfall still seems unlikely at the moment. And highs will remain above normal, with temperatures in the mid-80s each day.

This means we will need to be cautious with outdoor activities and refrain from burning as long as dry weather advisories and burn bans remain in place. At least some fire danger is likely to persist for some time as much of SWLA remains at 2/4 drought (severe) on the US Drought Monitor.

Drought levels have expanded with this week’s update. A worsening of the moderate drought we are in is certainly possible before we return to better rains. Burn bans include Calcasieu, Jeff Davis, Allen, Beauregard and Vernon parishes.
