How do I register to vote for the 2024 election? It’s not too late.

Nevadans who are not yet registered to vote have one more chance to register in tomorrow’s election.

Can I register on the same day I vote?

Same-day registration allows a voter to register for the first time or update existing registration on Election Day, Tuesday, November 5. Nevada lawmakers made this possible for Silver State residents when Assembly Bill 345 was passed during the 2019 legislative session.

What do I need to bring to register to vote?

A Nevada resident must have either a valid Nevada driver’s license, state ID card, or certain tribal ID card and vote in person at a polling place if they choose to register on the same day. If you ordered your Nevada driver’s license or ID card but it hasn’t arrived in the mail yet, the temporary paper license or ID card that the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles gives you when you successfully apply for a license or ID will also serve as proof of identity.

Any other form of identification, such as a military ID or passport, will not be accepted as proof of identity for same-day check-in.

If you’ve moved since you last updated your Nevada driver’s license or Nevada ID card, you’ll also need to bring proof of your current residence to the poll worker when you go to vote.

What documents can I use to prove residency in Nevada?

The following items can be used as proof of residence:

  • A military ID card
  • A utility bill, including, without limitation, a bill for electricity, gas, oil, water, sewage, sewage, telephone service, cell phone or cable television
  • A bank or credit union statement
  • A salary
  • An income tax return
  • A statement regarding the mortgage, rental or lease of a home
  • Vehicle registration
  • Property tax return
  • Any other document issued by a government agency
  • A tribal identity card

Once you have provided the required identification and completed the registration process, you will be given a ballot. This can be a provisional ballot.

What is a provisional ballot?

A provisional ballot is a complete ballot that contains all the contests, initiatives, measures and questions available for your constituency. It’s called a provisional ballot because it can only be counted if certain conditions are met. All provisional ballots are cast until all other ballots have been counted and the county clerk has verified the voter’s eligibility.

All voters, including those who have received provisional ballots, can check the status of their vote at www.NVSOS.gov/votersearch.

What types of Tribal IDs can be used for same-day registration?

Under state law, a Tribal ID can be used to identify an individual only if it contains certain information:

  • The full legal name of the cardholder
  • Date of birth of the card holder
  • A unique number assigned to the cardholder
  • A digital photograph of the cardholder’s full face
  • Address of the cardholder’s primary residence
  • A physical description of the cardholder, including without limitation the cardholder’s height, weight, hair color and eye color
  • Cardholder’s usual signature
  • The date the card is issued
  • A reference to the tribal government that issued the card

Can I register online and vote on the same day?

Yes, any Nevada resident with a valid Nevada driver’s license or ID can register online at www.RegisterToVote.NV.gov.

However, if a voter registered online 14 days before Election Day (in this case, on or after October 22), they can only vote in person at a polling place and must present their valid Nevada driver’s license, Nevada ID or Tribal ID to vote in elections.
