British prosecutors are considering whether to charge Russell Brand with sexual assault allegations

LONDON — British prosecutors say they have received a dossier of evidence from police about alleged sex crimes by comedian Russell Brand and are considering whether to charge him.

The Crown Prosecution Service said on Saturday evening that “the police have submitted a file to us to consider a decision to charge in this case. Any decision to charge is made independently, based on the evidence and in accordance with our legal test.”

Detectives from London’s Metropolitan Police have interviewed Brand, 49, three times for “non-recent sex offences”.

“Our investigation is ongoing and a file has been passed to the CPS,” said Detective Constable Andy Furphy, who is leading the investigation. “We have a team of dedicated officers who provide specialist support to women who have come forward. We are committed to investigating sex crimes, regardless of how long ago they allegedly occurred.”

In September 2023, British media outlets Channel 4 and the Sunday Times published claims by four women that they were sexually assaulted or raped by Brand between 2006 and 2013, at the height of his fame. The accusers have not been identified.

The “Get Him To The Greek” comedian, author and actor denied the allegations, saying his relationships were “always consensual.”

Known for his wild and risque routines, Brand hosted radio and television shows, wrote a memoir detailing his struggles with drugs and alcohol, appeared in several Hollywood films and was briefly married to pop star Katy Perry between 2010 and 2012.

In recent years, Brand has largely disappeared from the media, but has built up an online following with videos that mix health and conspiracy theories.
