A 6-year-old girl has been identified by police as the seriously injured victim in Saturday’s crash on Sunrise Highway.

Authorities say a westbound driver on Bohemia Freeway lost control of the car, struck the center median, left the roadway and hit a tree.

Traffic was stopped for several hours afterwards. Drivers were forced to detour onto smaller roads, causing gridlock and congestion in nearby neighborhoods.
