Excessive rainfall and isolated severe thunderstorms are possible.

QUAD CITIES, IA/Ill. (KWQC) — Rain will continue into the morning hours Sunday, with some hometowns seeing quite a bit of rain. The first round of rain moves out of the region by the afternoon, giving us a short break before our next heavier round of precipitation arrives Sunday night into Monday. Temperatures will hold steady in the low to mid 60s.

Heavy rain and strong to strong thunderstorms are possible on Monday, which means Monday is WARNING DAY ONE.

Heavy rain will move into the region Monday morning, with the heaviest activity east of the river. We have a brief lull in the action before showers and storms re-develop in the afternoon. A few storms could become severe with damaging winds and a brief tornado or two possible. The Storm Prediction Center has areas along and south of I-80 at a Level 1 risk for severe thunderstorms.

The main concern for Monday will be the potential for very heavy rainfall. It is not out of the question to see localized areas get up to 6″ of rainfall when all is said and done. While this will dramatically improve our drought, this could cause flooding in some low-lying areas and roads. With a short lull in activity expected Sunday afternoon, take some time to check your basement sump pumps. Another quick task that could alleviate flooding is to make sure all your drains are clear of leaves and debris.
