Tennessee man arrested after months-long investigation into sexual assault of minor

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – A Tennessee man has been arrested in a 6-month investigation in Bay County.

The Bay County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday that David Edward Grant was taken into custody after investigators identified him as a suspect in a case of sexually assaulting a minor.

The official statement said in May 2024, BCSO deputies were called to Alaska Circle in reference to a domestic call. Deputies said they learned a 15-year-old victim had been in contact with an adult male on Snapchat and had met in person and had sex in Bay County.

Investigators said they identified the man as Grant, who was employed in the itinerant commercial construction business. They said they confirmed Grant took the child to a local hotel where they engaged in sexual activity.

BSCO authorities said they served and executed more than 10 search warrants and subpoenas and collected a large amount of evidence during the investigation.

Investigators said on Oct. 31, 2024, Grant was located at a hotel in Saraland, Alabama, just outside of Mobile, where he worked. They said he was taken into custody and booked into the Mobile County Metro Jail, where he was interviewed by BCSO investigators who obtained a full confession.

We’re told Grant is currently awaiting extradition back to Bay County, where he will face charges of sexual assault on a person over 12 but under 18 with special conditions; Traveling to meet a minor for sex; and Using a child in a sexual performance.
