JACKSONVILLE – Florida football QB DJ Lagway was carted off the field with an apparent leg injury Saturday during the second quarter of UF’s game against rival Georgia at EverBank Stadium.

Lagway, a five-star true freshman from Willis, Texas, got his left foot caught on the turf on a run attempt with 5:01 left in the second quarter. Teammates surrounded him as he was carried and Florida Gators fans chanted “DJ Lagway” as the cart headed down the tunnel.

The 6-foot-3, 239-pound Lagway threw a 42-yard TD pass to sophomore receiver Aidan Mizell to give UF a 7-3 lead before the injury and went 2-of-6 for 47 yards with 18 yards on the run. Aidan Warner, a transfer from Yale, replaced Lagway and played the rest of the second quarter.

“He’s got a hamstring injury,” Florida football coach Billy Napier said during the halftime interview on ABC. “A pretty significant one.”

After the game, Napier said Lagway would undergo an MRI on Sunday to further assess the damage. When asked if the injury was season-ending, Napier said: “It’s soft tissue, so those things are subjective sometimes.”

The loss of Lagway was another blow to UF’s already depleted quarterback offense, with Graham Mertz done for the season with a torn ACL he suffered Oct. 13 at Tennessee.

Florida also lost cornerback Devin Moore to injury on Saturday, when he injured his knee while returning an interception during the second quarter. Moore was on crutches after the game.
