Lockport woman faces DWI charge after reckless driver complaint

A 38-year-old Lockport woman is facing felony DWI charges following a Tuesday night investigation into a reckless driver complaint on South Transit Road.

Niagara County sheriff’s deputies said they received reports of a vehicle “all over the road” on South Transit around 11:40 p.m. Tuesday.

A deputy observed the vehicle northbound on Transit and noted it was drifting out of its lane and the driver failed to signal a turn before changing lanes.

Upon conducting the traffic stop, the deputy noted that the driver, identified as Latasha Porter, 38, of Lockport, had thrown a receipt out the window. She said she was driving home from a fast food restaurant. Deputies noted that a child was in the back seat of the vehicle.

Following a series of field sobriety tests, Porter was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated – violation of Leandra’s Law, endangering the welfare of a child and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Porter was transported to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, where a breath test determined her blood alcohol content was 0.21 percent.

Porter was remanded to the Niagara County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

A passenger in the vehicle was also found to have an active warrant out of Erie County and was turned over to Erie County Sheriff’s Deputies at the county line.
