WNBA Finals MVP Jonquel Jones refuses to label Caitlin Clark and Fever fans

After the 2024 WNBA playoff series between the Indiana Fever and the Connecticut Sun ended, Sun star forward Alyssa Thomas he shouted hate that she and her teammates received from the Fever fan base, which she seemed to believe had intensified with the arrival of Caitlin Clark and her massive fan base in Indiana.

This has caused much discussion around the women’s basketball community, with a common question being whether this hate is actually coming from Clark/Fever fans or whether it’s just “trolls” as Clark stated.

And WNBA Finals MVP Jonquel Jones weighed in on that sentiment recently appearance on “The Pivot Podcast” with Ryan Clark.

“I think a lot of the fans, the Caitlin Clark fans, I think they wanted to latch on to Caitlin Clark and then use her as … this fuel to be able to be who they wanted to be,” Jones said. on the podcast. “And I think that’s why there was such a big backlash when she liked the whole post taylor swift saying they are voting for Kamala Harris because they want her to be the representation of their racism and their worldview and she is not.

“And I think you have to be careful when you say Fever fans because I don’t think they’re Fever fans,” Jones continued. “I think people wanted Caitlin Clark to be a certain way and they thought she was, so they became Caitlin Clark fans assuming that. And now they’ve realized “Oh no, she’s not actually racist.” And so they don’t have to go back and try to find someone else who can embody the things that they feel.”

It will be interesting to see what the response to Jones’ comments is within the women’s basketball community.
