A Millcreek Community Center? Community Feasibility Study

Millcreek Township officials will consider opening a community center.

City supervisors approved hiring a consultant to look at the cost of opening and operating a community center and the programs it could offer.

The study is a top recommendation in the new locality strategic plan for Parks and Recreation, a plan for program and facility improvements through 2028. The plan was finalized by Altair Consulting Group in February with input from Millcreek residents.

“A key finding was that we should target investments in centralized, high-demand assets and facilities,” said Ashley Marsteller, director of Millcreek Parks and Recreation. “A leading action is to assess the feasibility of developing a centralized community center.”

A community center was second only to walking and hiking trails on residents’ wish list of recreation programs, amenities and facilities the township could offer. The center could offer health and wellness programs, classes and public events, residents said in a survey and at a public open house and workshops.

The community center’s feasibility study will be conducted by Denver-based Ballard*King & Associates and will include market, programming and operational analyses, and an economic impact assessment.

The cost of the study is capped at $24,000, to be paid for out of the parks and recreation department’s capital budget. No time frame was given for its completion.
