Kadyrov claims to have revoked the order not to take Ukrainian soldiers prisoner

Chechen dictator Ramzan Kadyrov claimed on November 2 that he had revoked an order to his troops not to capture Ukrainian soldiers.

After the first drone strike against Russia Republic of the North Caucasus which aimed Russian Special Forces University of Vladimir Putin in the Chechen city of Gudermes on October 29, Kadyrov said he had ordered all his commanders fighting against Ukraine to “take no prisoners” and instead kill all Ukrainian soldiers who surrender as punishment.

In his recent Telegram post, Kadyrov claimed to have received “more than 2,000 letters from Ukrainians” asking him to cancel his order. He offered no evidence to support his allegations.

Kadyrov had earlier claimed that there were casualties among captives after a drone strike on Chechnya that Ukrainian prisoners of war (POW) they were killed as a result of the drone strike on the military university.

Kiev has not claimed responsibility for the attack, also refusing to comment on Kadyrov’s claims.

A Ukrainian information source told the Kyiv Independent on October 29 that the drone strike may have been launched from the neighboring republics of Dagestan or Ingushetia and could have been linked to a feud between Kadyrov and officials from the two regions.

Ukraine documented itself over 100 cases of Russia summarily executing Ukrainian prisoners since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022. Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets clarified that the real number is likely to be much higher as it is difficult to document Russian war crimes without supporting evidence such as videos of the executions.
