Cross River LG polls: Electoral materials hijacked – PDP sounds the alarm

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has alleged that electoral materials for the conduct of LGA elections in Cross River were hijacked by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

The allegation was made by PDP candidates in Saturday’s Yakurr and Obudu council elections, Mrs. Jennifer Usani and Mr. Emmanuel Asinde respectively.

They reported the absence of voting materials in their respective LGAs at the time of filing this report for the election which was scheduled to start at 8:00 am.

The PDP candidates said not only that there are no materials, but that there does not appear to have been any election in the zones.

“There is no one, polling officials and security guards in Obudu polling units as we speak and obviously they cannot be voters in the absence of officials and security.

“Indeed, we were ready for the elections, but it seems they were never ready for us,” candidate Yakurr said.

Also speaking, Asinde, who corroborated the narrative of his Yakurr counterpart, also claimed that voting is only taking place at the APC candidate’s ward in Obudu.

“There is no election in the 10 wards except for the APC candidate in Obudu,” he claimed.

Meanwhile, the state election umpire refuted the allegation of misappropriation of materials and said that voting is currently underway across the state.

A commissioner in the state electoral commission, Mr. Daniel Edet, debunked the claim, saying the Commission worked hard to ensure smooth elections.
