MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. declared Monday, November 4, a national day of mourning for the victims of severe tropical storm Kristine (international name: Trami).

Marcos made the declaration through Proclamation No. 728 of October 30, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.

“Severe Tropical Storm Kristine’s onslaught has caused loss of life and property destruction, including massive damage to agriculture and critical infrastructure and lifelines, as well as disruption to people’s livelihoods and normal way of life,” Marcos. said in the proclamation.

“The nation deeply mourns this tragic loss and joins the families and loved ones of our deceased brothers and sisters in this moment of immense sadness,” he added.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s tally on Saturday, November 2, recorded 146 dead, 91 injured and 19 missing, with 8,534,215 people affected by the storm.

Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture estimated on Thursday, October 31, that P4.85 billion of rice, high-value crops and infrastructure were damaged by Kristine.
