MrBeast fires workers but says legal investigation finds no evidence of sexual misconduct

MrBeast has fired up to 10 employees after a third-party investigation into the online content provider’s workplace culture found several instances of harassment and misconduct, the company announced on Friday.

A company spokesman declined to say how many people MrBeast has laid off. But the development comes as Jimmy Donaldson, 26, who attracts millions of views under the moniker MrBeast with highly produced stunts and giveaways, battles allegations of impropriety that have threatened his family-friendly image.

Investigators identified only “several isolated instances of harassment and misconduct in the workplace,” according to a two-page letter sent Friday by Alex Spiro, a lawyer who led the investigation by white-shoe law firm Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan and whose clients have included Jay-Z and Elon Musk.

No evidence of sexual misconduct

The nearly three-month investigation found no basis behind allegations that MrBeast team members engaged in sexual misconduct or “knowingly” hired people with “propensities or histories of illegal or questionable legal behavior.”

Spiro said the team spoke with dozens of current and former employees. Millions of documents from phones, emails and messaging platforms including Discord and Slack were also reviewed, the letter said.

Csurrounding polemics the so-called King of YouTube started snowballing this summer. Ava Tyson, a friend and fellow creator of Donaldson’s, accused of sharing sexually inappropriate messages with minors over several years, left the channel in July. Also posted online by YouTuber Rosanna Pansino was a 2017 recording of Donaldson making racist comments and using homophobic slurs.

A preliminary shoot in July for his ambitious “Beast Games” Amazon Prime Video show was quickly hit by safety complaints from contestants who said they faced “limited food” and “insufficient medical staff” while they were competing for a grand prize of 5 million dollars.

MrBeast, in turn, has hired new executives, including a chief of staff and general counsel, according to Spiro, and additional employees are receiving “targeted training and executive coaching” for undisclosed violations of company policy.

The company “has grown extremely quickly from a YouTube start-up of a group of talented young people to a much larger entity,” Spiro wrote to MrBeast’s Board of Directors. “It is not uncommon for core policies and practices in a mature company to lag behind commercial success.”

Donaldson expands his empire

Donaldson has remained largely silent on these matters. He recently launched a prepackaged lunch brand alongside internet personalities Logan Paul and KSI, marking his latest foray into the food market after his chocolate bar and burger chain received mixed reviews. His 325 million YouTube subscribers have continued to watch his streams full of quirky and energetic videos, such as the recently titled “100 Identical Twins Battle for $250,000.”

One post to X who shared Spiro’s letter, Donaldson, one of the world’s most well-known online personalities, said he “has been asked to refrain from making public statements to allow for a thorough and impartial investigation.”

Pansino, one of Donaldson’s most vocal critics, responded to X that the findings of “harassment and misconduct in the workplace” and “many firings” mean it “may be time for a larger investigation.”

Donaldson’s level of fame and growth puts him in “pretty rare company,” said advertising attorney Robert Freund, whose practice helps creators resolve disputes. He said he suspected the letter was released in an attempt to reassure stakeholders “that he is running a professional operation.”

“I don’t see anything fishy or suspicious in what has been presented to us here as an audience,” Freund told The Associated Press.
