Scooter’s Coffee raises over $1,300 for breast cancer event

LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – Last month for breast cancer awareness month, 7news hosted a Scooter’s Coffee fundraiser for Kelsey Wells.

Wells is a young Lawton mother battling stage 4 breast cancer.

On October 31st, Scooter’s Coffee General Manager Michelle Verducci handed over the checks, dollars and cents to a grateful Wells, totaling just over $1,300.

“When we heard the story about Kelsey, a young woman like that, and every October we do something for breast cancer awareness, so we just wanted to reach out to her and all of you to help the community,” Verducci said.

The community continued to help with fundraising until the last day when it ended to support Wells.

“I feel so blessed to know that there is support for me out there,” Wells said.

Some of the support Wells received came directly from the cancer center’s support group.

“She can come to some of our meetings and listen to someone who is in different stages of cancer from start to finish,” Connie Leary said. “She might go through the whole game and we just want her to know that we have a listening heart and nine times out of ten we’ve been there and done that.”

Cancer Support Group meets every Wednesday at 10am for women, men and carers.
