DK Metcalf ‘Just needs more time’, Ernest Jones IV questionable and other Seahawks injury updates

In addition to the players ruled out, linebacker Ernest Jones IV, who was acquired in a trade last week, is questionable for Sunday’s game against his former team, the result of neck stiffness that developed this week.

“EJ came out with a neck today, he just got stiff on it,” Macdonald said. “So we’ll take it day by day, but we took care of him today.”

Not on the game-status injury report is tackle George Fant, who returned to practice last week from injured reserve. Fant, who opened the season as Seattle’s starting right tackle, injured his knee in that Week 1 win and was replaced by Stone Forsythe and rookie Michael Jerrell for the final seven games. Macdonald has not yet said whether Fant will be activated from injured reserve for the game, a move that should take place Saturday.

“It’s full,” Macdonald said of Fant’s coaching status. “All the necessary trades, from an O-line standpoint, the rest of the team, we’ll make tomorrow, then we’ll be ready to roll.”

Asked about Fant’s week of practice, Macdonald said: “George looks good. George looks very good.”

As for tackle Abraham Lucas, who also returned to practice last week, his first practice since last season, there is still no set timetable for his return. Lucas had knee surgery after the season and the plan since returning to practice has been to wait until after the bye to assess things.

“It was good,” Macdonald said of Lucas’ week. “I don’t want to say in the schedule, because the schedule is, let’s continue to progress and then we’ll make a decision after the break about where we’re at. He’s gaining confidence, he’s working hard, he’s comfortable being uncomfortable. to a certain extent, and that’s where we are now.”

Macdonald was also asked about a pair of players currently on injured reserve. Asked if outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu is still expected this season, Macdonald said: “Yes. Again, it’s not a hard and fast thing, but from our people and early initial assessments of where he’s at in his progress, we’re optimistic we’ll get him back at some point.”

As for safety Rayshawn Jenkins, Macdonald said, “At some point we’re going to expect Jenks to be back as well.”
