Geauga County coach accused of sending inappropriate photo to student

GEAUGA COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) – A Berkshire Schools Athletics employee was charged Thursday with sending an inappropriate photo to a student.

Nicholas Burzanko, 35, of Middlefield, faces a felony charge of dissemination of material harmful to minors, according to Chardon Municipal Court records.

Berkshire Local School District the site states Burzanko serves as an assistant athletic coordinator, baseball coach and assistant football coach.

Records show Burzanko is accused of sending a photo of his penis to a 17-year-old student.

Burzanko allegedly admitted to sending the photo, “but thought it was covering his penis,” according to records.

The photo was sent last month via Snapchat.

Burzanko is due in court on November 13 for a preliminary hearing.

He was appointed 2024 Early CVC Valley Division Baseball Coach of the Year.

School district officials released the following statement to 19 News:

“The district has been made aware of an allegation of misconduct by a district employee. As a result, this district employee was immediately placed on leave, ensuring no further contact with the students. The district also immediately involved the Geauga County Sheriff’s Department, which opened an active investigation. The district employee will remain on leave from the district, pending the results of the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office investigation. The district cannot comment further until the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office completes its investigation. Questions regarding the investigation may be directed to Lt. Jonovich of the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office.”
