MSU rival Michigan loses top recruit to desperation

Belleville, Michigan’s Bryce Underwood is the No. 1 quarterback and prospect in the country, according to 247Sports. I’ve seen him play in person — there aren’t enough words to describe how good the 2025 prospect looks. People throw around the term “generational talent” a lot. I would use it for Underwood.

Andrew Ivins of 247Sports compared Underwood to Vince Young, arguably the most dominant quarterback of all time. Ivins also tagged Underwood as a first-round pick.

“Potential franchise signal caller with ideal blend of size, arm talent and athleticism,” Ivins wrote. “He showed no lack of command on the field halfway through his senior season, which makes sense given his resume: 48-plus career starts and more than 165 touchdowns accounted for. These numbers are further boosted by the fact that he is extremely young for his degree and won’t turn 20 until his third year of college.. However, the biggest revelation from his final draft campaign was the ability his ability to move the chains with his feet as he builds speed and evades defenders like an open field runner. frame that is north of 6-foot-3 and pushes 215 pounds. Displays excellent pocket awareness for his age and isn’t one to panic as the pressure mounts.

“He does his best to stick to the schedule and hit his signs with authority, showing the ability to not only contest tight coverage windows with speed over the middle, but also throw with both touch and anticipation on second and third level. Projects as a multi- One-year impact player for a College Football Playoff contender who has a chance to eventually emerge as a first-round pick in the NFL draft with his tools. He might need a semester or two to find his footing, but the ability to hunt down big plays and distribute the movement could be hard to keep off the court, even as he’s still learning how to dissect complex defenses.”

That scouting report brings a lot of pleasure. Maybe that’s why the Michigan Wolverines are desperate to pry Underwood away from LSU. He is reportedly offering a $5 million NIL package to match the Tigers. All that attention has to pay off — because it’s costing the Wolverines more than money.

They just lost a four-star quarterback in Carter Smith. Defender no. 14 in the class per the 247Sports Composite. Ivins told Smith.

“Tough, dual-threat quarterback prospect who finds ways to win games,” Ivins he wrote. “… Should be viewed as a mobile signal caller with modeling tools. He’ll likely need a lot of time to improve his mechanics and footwork, but he has what it takes to pick up a Power Four offense that wants to move the quarterback. around and get them involved in the running game.”

Smith is an elite talent and will hurt a lot more if the Wolverines can’t pull off the magic trick and land Underwood. If it costs Brady Hart, all bets are off.
