Chargers 2024 NFL Trade Deadline

The 2024 NFL trade deadline is fast approaching.

Here’s what you need to know about this year’s trade deadline:

When is the trade deadline in 2024?

The trade deadline is Tuesday at 1:00 PM (PT).

While teams can certainly make a trade before then, and some already have, all trades must be submitted to the league by 1:00 PM (PT) Tuesday afternoon.

Wait, is it later than usual?

Yes. In previous years, the trade deadline landed on the Tuesday after Week 8.

But NFL owners voted at the league’s annual meeting in March to push the deadline until after Week 9.

The Steelers put the amendment up for a vote.

Will the charger do an exchange?

Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz has already shown his willingness to make trades as he acquired Elijah Molden and Taylor Heinicke right before the season started.

Hortiz, from the moment he was hired, also stressed the importance of consistently looking to add talent to the roster 365 days a year.

What draft picks do the Bolts have?

While the Chargers could trade a player if they made a deal, teams typically give up draft compensation in return.

With that in mind, the Chargers 2025 draft picks can be found here.

It’s worth noting that the Chargers have a fifth-round pick, two sixth-round picks and a seventh-round pick. Teams generally give up late-round picks in exchange for a player this time of year.

Another note: Teams cannot trade compensatory picks before they are awarded.

So while the Bolts could end up getting a compensatory pick in the spring for a departing free agent like Kenneth Murray, Jr., who signed with Tennessee, they can’t deal with that pick until the league completes compensatory picks before the 2025 NFL Draft. .

What are some possible positions of need?

Entering Week 9, the Bolts are 4-3 and would be in a playoff spot if the season ended today.

And while some have called for the Bolts to add a wide receiver, note that the room gets healthier with DJ Chark and Quentin Johnston possible to return against browns.

Cornerback could also be a position to watch depending on the current health of the group.

Kristian Fulton is battling a hamstring injury, while Ja’Sir Taylor has been battling a fibula injury for most of the season.

Asante Samuel, Jr. is currently on Injured Reserve with a shoulder injury, and Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh recently said “we’ll see” if the fourth-year player returns this season.

All in all, with the trade deadline just days away, we’ll have to wait and see if Hortiz and his staff make a move at the trade deadline.
