The new recall petition has been filed against Mayor Flint

FLINT, MI (WNEM) – A new recall petition has been filed against Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley.

According to Genesee County Clerk Dominique Clemons, seven new recall petitions were filed in his office against Neeley on Friday, November 1st.

The language cites the following varied reasons for calling for Neeley to be recalled:

  • “Under Mayor Sheldon Andre Neeley, in an April 25, 2024 Scripps News article, the Environmental Protection Agency warned that it was not safe for any residents to drink water in Flint without special filters.”
  • “Mayor Sheldon Andre Neeley announced that the city of Flint will enter into a contract with STAT-EMS, saying the partnership will provide Flint residents with faster service and higher quality services.”
  • “Flint Mayor Sheldon Andre Neeley Denied Qualified Immunity in Former Fire Chief Raymond Barton’s Wrongful Termination Suit.”
  • “Mayor Sheldon Andre Neeley received a check from the Ashley Capital Political Committee in the amount of $2,100.”
  • “In a memo from the Mayor of Flint’s office, the City of Flint will pay Flint City Golf LLC a monthly management fee of $6,000 per month, not to exceed a total of $72,000 upon receipt of monthly receipts and invoice.”
  • “Sheldon Andre Neeley stated in a May 16, 2023 Scripps News article that deadlines were set and missed, I admit.”
  • “In a memorandum from the mayor’s office, signed by Sheldon Andre Neeley, the parties agreed (A) Flint City Golf LLC will manage and operate the courses on behalf of the City of Flint in 2024.”

Clemons said an election board meeting to review and either approve or reject the language has not yet been scheduled, and notification will be sent when the meeting is scheduled.

On September 27, eight sets of language were submitted to remember Neeley, but they were fired on October 16 because, according to Clemons, the petitioner was not a city of Flint.
