According to NeowinStatcounter’s latest Windows usage figures show that Windows 11’s market share has finally begun to catch up with Windows 10, but its predecessor still has a huge lead.

The total share of Windows 10 users is now 60.95%, which is down 1.8 percentage points from the last survey, while the total share of Windows 11 users is up 2.13 percentage points to 35.55%. That means more than twice as many people are still using Microsoft’s older operating system, but the company will probably think the numbers are at least moving in the right direction.

Just a few months ago, we reported that Windows 11 had overtaken Windows 10 the most popular operating system among Steam usersso this trend seems to follow. Slowly but surely, people are migrating to Windows 11, even though we recently passed the operating system’s three-year anniversary. But given the slow pace, the switchers are likely to be mainly users who have had to replace their dying PCs with new ones that come preloaded with Windows 11.

There’s also the upcoming end of support for Windows 10, which is scheduled to hit October 14, 2025. As we get closer to that date, we’re likely to see the pace of migration accelerate. For anyone who is still on Windows 10 and wants to keep it after support ends, it will be possible to – but it will cost extraand it won’t be permanent.
