2 Florida teachers quit rather than implement new grading policy

The big story: For years, educators in Florida and across the country have talked about finding ways to make student grades better reflect their performance.

They debated ideas, including zero-zero policies and standards-based reporting. The pushback generally follows efforts to move away from the widely used A-to-F letter grading system.

The Bradford County School District north of Gainesville adopted a grading policy three years ago that involves a “translation chart” that is supposed to make clear how a student’s performance in the classroom matches state expectations. Three district elementary schools have recently made the use of the chart mandatory.

Two teachers are opting out rather than implementing the model, which they said is improperly altering students’ grades. Read more from WCJB.
