Dirty cops arrested for issuing vehicle license certificates

A police official on alert at the Ramatlabama port of entry, led to the arrest of three police officials Tshepiso Theresa Boikanyo (45), Keorapetse Aubrey Molefe (44) and Tshedimosetso Bridgette Nku (22) attached to the Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU) in Lehurutshe, North West .

They appeared in the Lehurutshe Magistrates Court on Wednesday on charges of corruption and were granted bail of R500 each.

The next court appearance is on Monday, December 9, 2024.

Their court appearance follows their arrest earlier the same day (Wednesday 30 October 2024) by members of the SAPS Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit.

The suspects are alleged to have received payment for issuing vehicle registration certificates for two stolen vehicles, a white Toyoya Hilux and a silver Volkswagen Polo.

When these vehicles were stopped at the Ramatlabama Port of Entry (PoE), the police officer on alert realized that the vehicles were issued with SARPCCO permits but the vehicles had been tampered with.

The vehicles were impounded and the incident was reported to the SAPS Anti-Corruption Unit, which resulted in the arrest of the trio.

The public is reminded that the issuance of SARPCCO Vehicle Authorization Certificates (required for border crossing) or other vehicle authorization certificates issued by the South African Police Service and is a free service.

Anyone who had to pay for these services is asked to contact the Anticorruption Units.

Have you ever been charged for a SARPCCO clearance certificate?
