Man sentenced in crash that killed Grand Island teenager

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) – A Grand Island man is headed to prison for a fatal crash nearly a year ago.

Quentin Scroggin, 20, was sentenced Wednesday in Hall County District Court for felony motor vehicle homicide, as well as DUI and reckless driving with intent, both misdemeanors.

Judge Patrick Lee handed down a term of eight to 20 years on the MVH charge. His license will also be suspended for 15 years. He also received time and a fine for the other charges, but they will run concurrently with the felony sentence.

pleaded Scroggin he does not contest the three charges. As part of that deal, two counts of DUI causing serious bodily injury were dismissed.

The charges stem from a fatal crash at the intersection of Schauppsville and Wildwood in the early morning hours of Nov. 16. This is about three miles southwest of Alda.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office responded to an early morning crash at the intersection of Schauppsville and Wildwood.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office said an SUV driven by Scroggin was northbound on Schauppsville Road when Scroggin lost control and the vehicle rolled. There were five people in the vehicle. Brennan Villatoro, 18, and another passenger were ejected.

Scroggin and the other three passengers were taken to CHI Health St. Hospital. Francis for treating wounds.
