Drinking water advisory issued for Thurston County water system after sample shows high nitrate levels

THURSTON COUNTY, Neb. (KTIV) – A water advisory was issued for some people in Thurston County, Nebraska Thursday evening.

A sample, which was collected last week, showed nitrates at levels higher than the maximum isolation level in the Village of Pender’s water system.

A notice has also been issued for Thurston Rural Water customers. This notice says that adults and children who are more than 6 months old can drink tap water. However, a spokesman for Papio Missouri River Natural Resources says no one should drink tap water until further notice. The spokesperson also warned that boiling water will not get rid of nitrates.

Those needing water can get it from the Village of Pilger office at 614 Main Street.
