Suspect arrested in $30,000 vandalism incident at Orlando fire station

A man has been arrested after causing approximately $30,000 in damage to Orlando Fire Station 1, forcing first responders to take their attention away from critical tasks.

On October 4 at approximately 5:20 a.m., downtown Orlando bicycle officers responded to a report of broken garage windows at OFD Station 1.

The suspect, identified as Matthew Jaquith, allegedly used a rock to break the windows.

Officers reviewed surveillance footage and released an image of the suspect. An officer recognized Jaquith from a previous encounter during their patrol, which led to his identification.

A warrant was issued for Jaquith’s arrest, and once located, he provided a full confession. He was accused of criminal acts.

The Orlando Police Department and Fire Department stressed that incidents like these put a strain on public safety resources as first responders are forced to deal with such vandalism instead of focusing on community emergencies.
