The full-year forecast will be revised as the recent strength of the Hong Kong economy fades

Recent power in The Economy of Hong Kong it eased in the third quarter to an annualized 1.8% growth, prompting a revision of the government’s full-year forecasts in mid-November.

The Census and Statistics Department, which released advance estimates on Thursday, said it would revise the gross domestic product (GDP) figure and provide more detailed statistics for the third quarter on November 15.

The GDP figure slowed from 3.2% annual growth in the second quarter. In the first nine months, the economy grew by 2.6% compared to the same period last year.

Some analysts said slower growth meant the government’s full-year forecast was “very far off” and they expected it to be cut.

The government’s full-year forecast is for growth between 2.5 and 3.5 percent.

“Hong Kong’s economy continued to expand, albeit at a moderate pace, in the third quarter of 2024 more than a year earlier,” a government spokesman said. “The economy should continue to grow for the rest of the year.”
