WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – A man was arrested after robbing three Wayne County businesses while wearing a skeleton and clown mask.

An affidavit was filed by the FBI in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan on October 27, detailing probable cause for the suspect’s arrest.

Robbery at Intimate Ideas

On October 27, 2024, just before 1 a.m., a man wearing a partial skeleton mask robbed respondent Ide in Westland at gunpoint. The robber asked the clerk to hand over money from the register. The robber put his gun back on his belt and opened the cash register himself. He was able to take approximately $422 from the register before leaving the store.

Attempted robbery at McDonald’s

A man wearing a clown mask and green jacket attempted to rob a McDonald’s in Westland on Oct. 27 just before 6:30 a.m. Authorities said he entered the store with a gun and demanded money from the register . The employees were unable to comply with the robber’s demands because the register was closed. The robber tried to open the register and the employees left the store. He was unable to get the money and left the restaurant.

Shell gas station robbery

Shortly after attempting to rob McDonald’s, a man wearing a clown mask walked into a Shell gas station in Garden City, pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded money from the register.

The robber told the clerk, “You have 30 seconds before I start shooting.”

The clerk then gave the robber approximately $1,070.

The robber took the money and said, “Thank you,” before leaving the store.

Masked robber arrested

Garden City police were patrolling the area of ​​the gas station and found a man sitting in his car outside an apartment complex near the gas station.

The man, Brendan Bonner, was not wearing a mask, but was wearing a green jacket that matches the video surveillance. He was removed from the car and arrested.

In Bonner’s car, police found the following items:

  • A black P80 polymer semi-automatic handgun,

  • A clown mask

  • Latex gloves

Police also found money wrapped in a rubber band in the pocket.

Police also searched Bonner’s apartment and found a partial skeleton mask, clothing matching those obtained during the Intimate Ideas robbery, and money.

Authorities spoke with a person who also lived in the apartment during the search. The person said Bonner took a skeleton mask and a gun he made using parts he ordered online. Bonner told the person he was going out to commit a robbery. When Bonner returned to the apartment, he told the person that he had robbed Idea at gunpoint.

The person who lives in the apartment also told police that Bonner cleaned the money for hours so that no fingerprints would be on it. Bonner told the person he didn’t bring his phone to the robbery because he knew it could be tracked.

The second time Bonner left the apartment, the person told police he took a clown mask and the same handgun.

During an interview with police, Bonner admitted to robbing the three businesses. He was then taken into custody.
