Halloween windy with scattered showers during the day

SAGINAW, Michigan (WNEM) – We continue to bring you the first wind weather alert today as a low pressure system approaches. That wind is coming tonight, so hold on to your candy basket! Also important is that if you have outdoor decorations (especially the explosive type) make sure they are properly anchored and secured!

On the back of this wind and some showers today, we have a reality check with the weekend temperatures. This means a return to highs in the 50s.

Today – Happy Halloween!

Although we still have a little breeze this morning, it’s actually a little lighter than yesterday at the same time. However, though the morning, we’ll see wind speeds pick up promptly, with gusts reaching 35 to 40 mph before noon.

In the afternoon, gusts will exceed 40 mph at times. This determined a Wind warning for central Michigan, the Bay region and the northern Thumb. Isolated gusts could reach 45 to 50 mph later in the afternoon and during trick-or-treating, but at least most gusts will reach 40 mph. The wind direction will remain southwest during this period as well.

Our strongest gusts will exceed 40 mph.

Temperatures are also expected to drop somewhat quickly during the evening as a cold front approaches. Expect temperatures to drop around three or four degrees per hour, which combined with the wind will feel like a rapid temperature drop!

Highs will reach 70 degrees with a southwest wind 20 to 25 mph. The warmest areas in mid-Michigan are probably from Flint to the Bay region and into the Thumb. The normal high temperature for Halloween is 53 degrees.

With the low approaching, showers are still expected here. Locally in our area, the rain will be more scattered or intermittent, with the most persistent bands remaining in the northwest of our area. Earlier this week, the rain looked like it would be long for today, but with our recent high-resolution data, that won’t be the case.

Scattered showers will pass.

Showers are still expected to leave by 5 or 6pm, apart from a stray shower in the big toe, so luckily the rain should leave just in time for trick or treating! Some pavement will still be wet, but any active rain should be out of our area. This is due to the dry gap of the low moving in, where dry air could also temporarily remove some clouds during the evening.

The showers should leave around 5 or 6pm, just in time!

With today’s rain coverage being weaker, rain totals are also down. Most areas can only expect to pick up a tenth or two throughout the day, which unfortunately won’t really affect our drought.

Rainfall totals will be around 0.1 to 0.2 inches.

tonight

Skies will become mostly cloudy again as lake clouds take over overnight, but no showers are expected. Lows will drop to 41 degrees, with southwest winds turning northwest 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Those gusts will also be in the first half of the night as the wind gradually eases.

Outlook for Friday and the weekend

We’ll get back to reality with our high temperatures on Friday and this weekend as they return to the 50s. In fact, we’ll only have a high of 51 degrees on Friday. Winds will also be lighter than in recent days, reaching only 10 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph. The wind direction will be northwest. Clouds will also decrease throughout the day, becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon.

Friday will be colder than the last few days.

Mostly sunny skies will continue Saturday, with highs reaching as high as 56 degrees. It’s actually going to be quite a pleasant day! Winds will also remain calm at 5 to 10 mph out of the south. Lows then drop to 37 degrees Saturday night.

Sunday will turn cloudy in the morning before our next round of rain starts to move in. This rain will arrive in the afternoon and last through the evening and night. All of our southern areas have a better opportunity to see rain compared to our northern areas. But even in the north, rain will fill in there during Sunday night.

Rain will start coming from the south.

This rain continues into the first half of next week, keep an eye out TV5 First Alert Forecast for 7 days.
