Peewee football coach accused of shooting 2 people after game was defended by parents

CINCINNATI (WXIX) – Parents of players on a peewee football team are coming out to support the team’s coach who is accused of shooting two people after a game Sunday night.

Lamont Ragan, 29, is charged with felonious assault.

Ragan is the coach of the West End Elite Royals.

“We see kids getting into altercations there. Nobody goes out there. We let the refs handle it because the refs used to handle it. Then a parent ran onto the field,” said Rodnesha, a woman whose son plays on the team.

She says the parent who ran onto the field was from the other team, the Evanston Bulldogs.

“He said who does this kid belong to and Lamont came over there like he’s mine, his mom and dad aren’t there so he’s with me and he said he just hit Lamont,” Rodesha said.

Ragan’s attorney said the shooting was in self-defense during Ragan’s court appearance Thursday.

“No one stopped her. Everyone that was there that was supposed to protect everyone, like the head people, was with the Evanston Bulldogs. So we had no one to protect us. The Royals had nobody. So we tried to help them, our coach was jumped, it was like it was never going to end,” said Rodesha.

Duke Ragan says his brother is a good person who was just trying to protect his players.

“She was only doing what she had to do to protect herself and the children. This is a non-profit organization funded by himself. He’s not going to do anything to jeopardize that,” Duke said.

Ragan’s football players and team members’ mothers agree.

“Outside of training, he still goes to the players’ houses, checks on the kids, gives food to the parents, does a lot for these kids. He loves these kids,” said one mother.

“Coach Lamont was a great person because he would want to help everybody if they needed anything, they would come to him and I feel like it was just a sad incident,” said Eric Taylor, who plays for West End Elite Royals.

“He’s a good guy. He’s helpful, he’s grateful, and he does things to help the homeless,” Royals shortstop Kendall Bowden said.

The mothers of the players on the team say they believe everyone involved should be charged, not just Ragan.

“It’s a big deal, I don’t mean to say that, and nobody should have had guns, but as one of their team’s coaches said, if no punches were thrown, then there wouldn’t be any punches. fired.”

Lamont Ragan is scheduled to appear in court again on October 31.
