LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – On Tuesday afternoon, October 30, a pursuit by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) ended with the discovery of 11 undocumented individuals, including two children found in the trunk of their car. The pursuit began in the area of ​​Mines Road and ended on San Bernardo Avenue when DPS stopped the car.

Some of the migrants suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital. Sgt. DPS. Erick Estrada noted that cases of people smuggling often increase during holidays and election season.

The driver was arrested and may be charged with human trafficking. DPS has not yet released the name of the driver.

The Department of Public Safety (DPS) pursuit ended just before 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, at the intersection of Chicago Street and San Bernardo Boulevard. The Border Police was also on the scene.

DPS said children were found in the truck involved in the crash. Emergency crews arrived to help the injured.

Witnesses saw people being taken on trays and loaded into ambulances. Police were at the scene, directing traffic while the cleanup took place.
