Authorities in Iowa issued an Amber Alert Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 30, 2024, looking for 7-year-old Bryson Lewis Duong, right and center. He was found with Brandon Duong, 34.

Duong’s conviction comes after a AMBAR alert led officers on a high-speed chase and three-hour standoff near Remsen, Iowa, that occurred earlier this year.

On Tuesday, January 30, Brandon Duong was accused of kidnapping his 7-year-old son, Bryson Duong from Greene County Elementary School around 12:45 p.m. The AMBER Alert was issued for Bryson around 4:40 p.m.

The restraining order that Brandon pleaded guilty to violating was filed in December 2023. As previously reported, that restraining order restricted Duong from having custody of his son.

Plymouth County deputies said law enforcement learned Duong may have been armed during the pursuit. During the conflict, Duong reportedly had his son over his shoulder while the law enforcement officers had their guns drawn.

After three hours, Duong surrendered and was booked into the Greene County Jail. He was charged with second-degree kidnapping and violating a restraining order.

In February, Duong pleaded not guilty to second-degree kidnapping. In March, a judge ruled that Duong was authority to be tried after a psychiatric evaluation has taken place.
