No serious injuries were reported in the JCPS bus crash on Dixie Highway

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Elementary students along with a Jefferson County Public School bus driver were taken to the hospital Wednesday afternoon after a crash closed Dixie Highway.

The crash was reported at 2:44 p.m., according to Louisville MetroSafe. Dixie Highway, just south of Blevins Gap Road, was closed due to the crash, but has since reopened.

Carolyn Callahan, a spokeswoman for Jefferson County Public Schools, said the crash involved bus 1347, which was carrying 30 children from Dixie Elementary School. Some students complained of sore throats and were taken to the hospital to be evaluated. The bus driver was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

First responders at the scene told WAVE crews that the driver of the car that backed into the back of the bus was OK and refused medical treatment.

All other students were picked up by another bus and taken home. Callahan says the district was notified that a car had rear-ended the bus.

Drivers are encouraged to take an alternate route and avoid the area.

This is a developing story that will be updated.
