I’m looking to get in hi-fi revival CD brands continue to shout about? Do you like the idea of being able to play high-quality Super Audio CDs (SACDs) as well as basic CDs? Then this Marantz SA-12SE deal may be just what you’re looking for.

The deal is live on Peter Tyson now and lets you pick up the Marantz SA-12SE for £1599a saving of 50% off the normal price of £3199.

The Marantz SA-12SE is a top SACD/CD player designed for the discerning listener. See the offer

This is the lowest price I’ve ever seen the Marantz SA-12SE sold for. Before Peter Tyson’s latest discount, the lowest price we’ve seen retail was £2195 until May 2023.

The only small caveat is that we haven’t had the unit for testing yet, so we can’t personally attest to the audio quality.

However, given the deep discount and positive experience I’ve had with other recent Marantz players, including Marantz SA-10 – which earned a perfect five-star rating when we reviewed it in 2018 – we feel comfortable bringing the SA-12SE offering to the attention of our readers.

The Marantz SA-12SE is technically impressive, being built on the Japanese audio brand’s proprietary SACDM-3 engine – which is custom made in-house and designed to optimize performance for both CD and SACD.

The inclusion of Marantz Music Mastering also allows it to function as a DAC and play PCM signals up to 384kHz/32bit along with DSD256/11.2MHz.

For those unfamiliar, SACD is a specialized physical disc format launched in 1999 that was jointly developed by Sony and Philips that is designed to provide higher resolution sound, multi-channel support and longer playback times than the basic CD.

We’ve seen a number of other players supporting the format, including the even more premium £11,650, Esoteric K-05XD I gave it five stars in April, let it appear this year.

If that doesn’t tempt you, don’t worry. Although annually Black Friday sales event doesn’t officially start until late November, the Marantz discount is one of many early bird deals that have already appeared.

We expect a number of hi-fi savings to continue to appear in the coming month before the big day. We will follow all of them mainly the best hi-fi deals guide so be sure to keep checking back with What Hi-Fi? regular.
