The Falcons requested to reunite with Calais Campbell at the trade deadline

A new name that popped up on Falcons fans’ radars before the trade deadline is an old friend – Calais Campbell.

“The offseason addition of Matthew Judon it didn’t have the desired effect in Atlanta; the team ranks last in the NFL in both sacks (six) and QB pressure rate (25.9%) this season. Judon only has 13 edge pressures, and opponents are double-teamed Grady Jarrett into oblivion”, writes Kevin Patra.

The Atlanta struggles have been well documented. They rank last in sacks and near the bottom of the league in almost every passing category. A guy like Campbell would undoubtedly help the Falcons improve in that regard.

“Despite being 38 years old, Campbell can still watch it. Generated 16 QB pressures and two sacks. His 12.2 percent pressure rate is better than anyone on the Falcons with at least 100 rushes (Judon is currently heading to Atlanta with a 7.9 percent rate),” continued Patra.

Campbell, along with Bud Dupree, led the Falcons in sacks last season, but left in free agency for greener pastures, or should I say sunnier beaches. Things didn’t work out in Miami, though.

The Dolphins are 2-5 and must consider a potential sale, especially if they drop another game. With the Bills looming on Sunday, that’s a distinct possibility. Given the familiarity between Calais Campbell and the Falcons, a reunion could be just what the doctor ordered.

More than bolstering the pass rush, the Falcons have been unable to slow down opposing offenses this season. Campbell would help in this area as well. It seems like a perfect fit on paper, one that wouldn’t require much capital to return to the Dolphins.
