LSCO activates forest patrol deputy after receiving more than 1,000 calls for services in forest areas in western Leon this year

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A new position within the Leon County Sheriff’s Office aims to protect the county’s forests after the LCSO said they have received about 1,300 calls for service in the west Leon forest area so far this year.

LCSO and the Leon County Government announced the new forest patrol deputy on Wednesday. According to an LCSO press release, the deputy will “provide dedicated law enforcement coverage throughout the region, including the extensive Apalachicola National Forest.”

According to the release, the deputy will allow for “faster response times and increased law enforcement presence in remote and recreational areas.”

LCSO previously had a forest patrol deputy, but the position was cut due to lack of funding.
