3 media workers are killed in Lebanon

Lebanon’s National News Agency said an Israeli airstrike hit a compound housing journalists in southeastern Lebanon, the killing of three media workers from two different news agencies.

Several journalists have been killed since an almost daily exchange of fire began throughout Lebanon-Israel border on October 8, 2023.

Lebanon’s Ministry of Health says the total toll over the past year is more than 2,500 dead and 12,000 injured. The fighting in Lebanon has drove 1.2 million people from their homesincluding more than 400,000 children, according to the United Nations children’s agency. Israeli strikes have killed much of Hezbollah’s top leadership since fighting intensified in September.

Meanwhile, Israel’s offensive in Gaza has killed more than 42,000 Palestinians, according to local health authorities, who do not distinguish between militants and civilians. The Israel-Hamas war started after Hamas-led militants on October 7, 2023, punched holes in Israel’s security fence and entered, killing an estimated 1,200 people—mostly civilians—and kidnapping another 250.

A hospital director in the northern Gaza Strip says it is facing a catastrophic shortage of basic supplies and that ambulances can no longer serve the facility.

Israeli airstrike on journalists’ compound kills 3 TV staff, Lebanon state news says

BEIRUT — An Israeli airstrike on a compound housing journalists in southeastern Lebanon killed three media workers, Lebanon’s National News Agency said Friday.

Local news station Al Jadeed broadcast images from the scene showing collapsed buildings and cars marked “PRESS” covered in dust and debris. The Israeli military issued no warning before the strike, which hit a collection of huts that had been rented by various media outlets.

Beirut-based Al-Mayadeen pan-Arab television said two of its staff were among the journalists killed early Friday. Lebanon’s Hezbollah group’s Al-Manar TV said its cameraman was also killed. The driver of a United Nations agency is killed by Israeli forces

UN – A United Nations agency driver helping Palestinian refugees in Gaza was killed when a UN-marked vehicle was hit by Israeli forces, the United Nations said Thursday.

Deputy UN spokesman Farhan Haq told reporters that Israeli fire also killed the driver’s brother and left three bystanders with minor injuries.

Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, claimed that the UNRWA driver was a Hamas commander who participated in the October 7, 2023 attacks in southern Israel.

UNRWA said the driver’s name appeared on a list of 100 staff that Israel claimed were members of the military wing of Hamas which was sent to the agency in July. At the time, UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini asked Israel to provide more information so that action could be taken. But as of Thursday, UNRWA said Lazzarini had yet to receive a response.

The attack on the UNRWA vehicle in central Deir Al-Balah was the latest against UN personnel. More than 230 UN staff in Gaza were killed in Israel’s offensive on the territory from Israel-Hamas war it started.
