Fatal motorcycle crash is under investigation in Scioto County

SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio — An Ironton motorcyclist was killed Tuesday night in a collision on State Route 522, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The accident, reported at 18:26, involved a motorcycle and a truck traveling in opposite directions.

Clinton Barnard, 33, was driving his 2000 Honda Goldwing northwest on SR-522 when he attempted to pass another vehicle. Authorities say Barnard lost control and veered into the oncoming lane, where his motorcycle collided with a 2009 Freightliner truck headed southeast.

The truck, driven by Zachary Messer, 39, of McDermott, struck Barnard’s motorcycle in the southeast lane. Barnard was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash, officials said.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash with assistance from the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, the Green Township Fire Department and the Scioto County Coroner’s Office.

No charges have been filed in the crash at this time.
