The Eminence of the police is investigating the theft of copper from businesses

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – A man made off with more than 11,000 pounds of copper from a copper plant in Eminence, Kentucky earlier this month, and police there are asking for the public’s help in finding the suspect.

Eminence Police were contacted on Oct. 18 around midnight regarding a report of a theft. Surveillance video shows a man walking through the business’s warehouse. An employee asked the suspect if he could help him with anything, and the suspect said no and left.

“He walked without a care in the world. He didn’t look wise. It just looked like it was supposed to be here,” Eminence Deputy Police Chief Scott Wilcoxson said.

The suspect left Hussey Copper in a white truck equipped with a dump truck, perfect for getting rid of heavy materials. Police believe he may have gone to Shelby County.

“You see him come out with a pallet of copper coil, load it up, and then there’s two waste bins that he picks up and loads,” Wilcoxson said.

Police suspect this theft may not have been his first.

“It looked like they had the right vehicle for the right job,” Wilcoxson said.

This leads investigators to believe it was a local operation.

Wilcoxson said in a previous theft, a suspect made off with more than 40,000 pounds of copper from the same plant by posing as a company that was there to pick up a load. That stolen copper was later tracked to several states away with the help of a GPS tracking system, which is usually placed on shipments that are shipped.

Since the copper that was stolen in this heist was sitting in their warehouse, there is no way to find it.

Hussey Copper did not immediately respond to a request for comment. If you know anything about the suspect, you are asked to contact Eminence Police.
