Gas station employee shoots accused shoplifter in Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (WGHP) — A gas station employee shot a man suspected of shoplifting at a store on Tuesday morning, according to the Winston-Salem Police Department.

At around 6:50 am on Tuesday, officers came to the Mobil Gas Station on 500 Akron Drive after getting a report of a shooting.

At the scene, police met with an employee of the gas station who called 911.

Investigators say the employee saw a man shoplifting in the store and confronted him. At some point after that, the employee pulled out a gun and shot the suspected shoplifter outside the store.

The accused shoplifter then left the scene.

Officers searched the area surrounding the Mobil station and found the accused shoplifter suffering from a non-life-threatening injury as a result of being shot. He was cited for misdemeanor larceny and declined to pursue charges for the shooting.
