Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are enquiring suspect related to the brutal killing of Willis Ayieko, a human resources manager at Wells Fargo Company.

Victor Ouma Okoth, was pulled out of his hideout in Dandora Phase Four in Nairobi on Monday evening after he fled the scene of the crime in Nyamninia, Siaya County.

Reports indicate that Okoth, a native of Siaya, withdrew over Ksh 100,000 on Friday using the deceased’s mobile phone in Dandora area, which he used to secure a rental house that served as his hideout before his arrest.

“He came here at around ten with some things… I didn’t know he was a criminal,” Kevin Omondi, a Dandora resident, told Citizen TV.

“The day he came, everything was new. Yesterday was when we saw the government coming and doing its job,” added Keffe Teche, another resident.

Detectives have since established a forensic link between Okoth and the crime scene. They are also looking for potential accomplices as autopsy results indicate that Ayieko died of blunt force trauma to the head.

“The body was decomposed to a great extent. We found injuries, bleeding and bruising on the wrist,” said chief government pathologist Johansen Oduor.

“Importantly, we were able to positively identify him,” added pathologist Emily Odhiambo.

In addition to determining the cause of death, the team of pathologists meticulously searched for vital details, such as DNA samples left on the deceased’s body.

Investigators are relying on DNA evidence collected during the autopsy to firmly connect the suspect to Ayieko’s brutal murder.

Meanwhile, the grieving family of Ayieko, who were present during the post-mortem examination at the Lee Funeral Home, called for speedy investigations and prompt prosecution of those responsible for their son’s death.

“I want to implore our people to be patient because we are optimistic that we will get to the end. We are traumatized; the family is traumatized,” Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi, who is the family’s spokesperson, said.

“It was very tragic; I never imagined something like this would ever happen to someone like Willis,” added Siaya Governor James Orengo.

Ayieko’s body was discovered in a small stream in Nyamninia last Wednesday, three days after she went missing.
