Netflix, the universal renewal agreement for licensing animated titles, is adding live-action films

Universal Filmed Entertainment Group has signed a new license agreement with Netflixrenewing the studio’s animated film pact and adding US rights to live-action titles from both Universal Pictures and Focus Features.

The two companies expanded an existing business that sees the likes of Illumination and DreamWorks Animation titles The movie Super Mario Bros and the The minions movies streaming on Netflix.

Additionally, beginning in 2027, US rights to the studio’s live-action films will also be licensed to the service up to eight months after theatrical release, after the premium video-on-demand window and after an initial release of four months in flux. Netflix will have a 10-month window where Uni and Focus films are only available on Netflix before returning to Peacock, after which Netflix will also license titles from the Uni film slate for additional windows in subsequent years.
